Thai massage and other massages

What is traditional Thai massage and how does it work?

Traditional Thai massage — known in Thai as nuad thai — is a technique over two thousand years old that combines pressure along the body's energy lines, stretching and passive yoga positions. The therapist uses palms, thumbs, elbows and feet, and the massage takes place on a special mat on the floor, without oils. Unlike classic massage it does not focus only on muscles but on the whole body — which is why afterwards you feel greater mobility and energy flow, not just relaxed muscles.

What is the difference between Thai massage and oil massage?

Traditional Thai massage is dry — performed in comfortable clothing, without oils, and includes stretching and deep pressure. Aromatic oil massage is gentler, performed on bare skin under a towel, and is aimed primarily at relaxation, nourishing the skin and relieving stress. If you struggle with stiffness and muscle tension we recommend traditional Thai; if you are looking for calm and deep relaxation, choose the oil massage.

Is Thai massage painful?

Thai massage is deep, so working on tight muscles can feel intense, but it should never be painful. We always adjust the intensity to how you feel — simply tell your therapist if you would like it gentler or firmer. After a first massage a mild muscle soreness, similar to that after exercise, is normal and passes within a day or two.

Is the oil massage suitable for a first visit?

Yes. It is gentler than traditional Thai massage, so it is a good choice if you do not yet know how much pressure suits you.

Do I need to undress for the oil massage?

Yes, the oil massage is done on the bare body, covered with a towel. Traditional Thai massage, on the other hand, is done in clothes we provide.

Does the back massage include the neck and shoulders?

Yes. The neck and shoulders are part of the massage, because that is where tension from sitting and stress builds up first.

Is foot massage painful?

On some points you will feel the pressure, but it should never hurt. We always adjust the intensity to how it feels to you.

Booking and your visit

How do I book an appointment?

You can book through our online booking system, where you choose the service, therapist and an available time, or call us on +386 41 999 980. We recommend booking at least one day in advance as appointments fill up quickly. If you need to cancel, please let us know at least 24 hours before your appointment.

What should I wear and how do I prepare?

For traditional Thai massage we provide comfortable clothing, so no special preparation is needed. We recommend not eating a large meal just before the massage and arriving a few minutes early to settle in. If you have any health conditions, injuries or pain, tell your therapist before you start — she will adapt the massage accordingly.

Can we come for a massage together?

Yes. A massage for two is performed by two therapists at the same time, each in a separate room, so you can relax simultaneously — a popular choice for couples and friends. The easiest way to book for two is by phone at +386 41 999 980, as we need two therapists free at the same time.

Can we be in the same room?

No, each of you is in your own room. The massages run at the same time, so you can relax together.

Health and pregnancy

When is Thai massage not recommended?

We advise against it with fever and acute infections, fresh injuries, fractures, vein inflammation, thrombosis, severe osteoporosis and immediately after surgery. During pregnancy we perform a specially adapted prenatal massage rather than classic Thai massage. If you have a chronic illness, cardiovascular problems or are on medication, please consult your doctor before your visit.

Do you offer massage for pain relief?

Yes — relieving pain and tension is one of our main areas. Traditional Thai massage with deep pressure and stretching releases tight muscles and can ease back, neck and shoulder pain caused by sitting or stress. For targeted problems, a back massage or a longer traditional Thai massage is a good choice. With acute injuries or chronic pain, please consult a doctor first.

Do you offer massage during pregnancy?

Yes. For expectant mothers we offer a prenatal massage that is gentler than classic Thai massage and specially adapted to pregnancy. It lasts 30 minutes (€60) or 50 minutes (€80). If you have any complications during pregnancy, please consult your gynaecologist before your visit.

Can I have a classic Thai massage while pregnant?

No. We do not perform traditional Thai massage during pregnancy, because it involves deep pressure and stretching. Instead we offer prenatal massage, which is gentler and adapted to pregnancy.

What if I have complications in pregnancy?

Consult your gynaecologist before your visit. If you have any problems or pain, also tell the therapist before the massage begins.
